Ukraine concerns help US Dollar Climb

Euro to Pound

Mixed messages from BoE officials and a disappointing Lloyds business barometer saw the Pound slip slightly during European trading.

The currency was also adversely affected as developments in the Ukraine sparked risk aversion.

GBP/EUR is trading in the region of 1.2178 and GBP/USD is trading in the region of 1.6637

US Dollar

As investors turned to safe-haven assets in response to the news that Russian fighter planes are being put on combat alert, the ‘Greenback’ gained. The US Dollar received additional support ahead of Janet Yellen’s Senate testimony.

USD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.6012 and USD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.7323

Euro

Better-than-forecast German employment and Eurozone confidence data helped the Euro eek out modest gains during European trading. Additional common currency volatility may be occasioned by German inflation figures.

EUR/GBP is trading in the region of 0.8213 and EUR/USD is trading in the region of 1.3661

Australian Dollar

A report showing a considerably larger-than-forecast decline in Australian private capital expenditure left the ‘Aussie’ languishing against the majority of its most traded currency counterparts as the Australasian session closed.

AUD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5355, AUD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6538 and AUD/USD is trading in the region of 0.8935

New Zealand Dollar

New Zealand’s trade balance figures showed that the nation’s exports to China surged in January. The ‘Kiwi’ consequently advanced on almost all of its peers overnight and largely held gains into European trading.

NZD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5025, NZD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6120 and NZD/USD is trading in the region of 0.8360

Canadian Dollar

‘Loonie’ volatility has been minimal this week due to a notable lack of influential economic news for Canada. However, ahead of the release of the nation’s growth figures the Canadian Dollar was trading lower against the Pound and US Dollar.

CAD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5402, CAD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6582 and CAD/USD is trading in the region of 0.8985
