Australian Dollar surges on Employment Surprise

Australian dollar exchange rate

The Pound was little-changed after a domestic report revealed a surge in the UK’s house price balance. The British asset was a stronger against the US Dollar however thanks to North American developments.

GBP/EUR is trading in the region of 1.2103 and GBP/USD is trading in the region of 1.6777

US Dollar

As economists expected, the Federal Open Market Committee meeting minutes were more dovish in tone then those seen in previous months. The US Dollar consequently lost ground against the majority of its currency counterparts.

USD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5963 and USD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.7213

Euro

The FOMC minutes helped the Euro strengthen against the US Dollar during North American trading. The common currency was little affected by the publication of the European Central Bank’s monthly report.

EUR/GBP is trading in the region of 0.8263 and EUR/USD is trading in the region of 1.3864

Australian Dollar

With Australia’s unemployment rate unexpectedly dropping to 5.8 per cent in March, the ‘Aussie’s upward trend continued overnight. The AUD/USD pairing pushed to a six-month high.

AUD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5633, AUD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6816 and AUD/USD is trading in the region of 0.9441

New Zealand Dollar

An impressive domestic manufacturing report and Australia’s unexpectedly strong unemployment figures boosted the New Zealand Dollar overnight, counteracting the negative impact of China’s poor trade figures. The ‘Kiwi’ was close to a three year high against the US Dollar.

NZD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5187, NZD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6293 and NZD/USD is trading in the region of 0.8720

Canadian Dollar

Although the ‘Loonie’ advanced on a softer US Dollar yesterday it was little changed against several of its other main peers. Canada’s new housing price index could cause movement in the commodity-driven currency later today.

CAD/GBP is trading in the region of 0.5476, CAD/EUR is trading in the region of 0.6626 and CAD/USD is trading in the region of 0.9187
